About Me

The Blogger Claudia Tavani

My name is Claudia, I am from Cagliari (Sardinia) and I have a passion – or rather obsession – for travelling. It started when I was a child, thanks to my parents who took me camping here in Sardinia when I was less than a year old, and later on took me on road trips around Italy and Europe. I loved the thrill of being on the road, of seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures. To me, traveling is all about learning about the history and culture of the places I visit, meeting the locals, experiencing their daily life.

During my trips I enjoy discovering places that are on each traveller’s bucket list as well as the less known ones. I love meeting people, whether they are locals or other fellow travellers who want to share their anecdotes. I like backpacking, even though it may be exhausting at times. I enjoy couchsurfing and hostels, because they give me the chance to mingle with people, so that I don’t feel like I am the only crazy traveller in the world. I find I always have something to learn from other people’s experience, it is great to share advice and even join paths for a while. I have friends all over the world, and one of my aims is to eventually visit all of them.

Travel Writing and Travel Coaching

In November 2013 I decided it was time to live my dream rather than keep dreaming. I packed my backpack and off I was to explore Latin America. I was inspired to start my blog after a trip to Cuba, because I wanted to keep my friends and family informed about my adventures and show them the places I was visiting. Then I got a hang of it, and I kept on writing to let people dream through my travels and inspire them to live their dream, by providing guidance on places to visit and how to get there, where to sleep and eat, what great adventures they can have. I like it so much that I have made up my mind to give up my career as an academic and human rights lawyer and pursue travel coaching and travel writing as a full time project.

Find out more about how I went from being a bored academic to a fun and free blogger.

How I find inspiration

It’s easy! I have travelled so much, I have so many stories to tell, so much advice to give that ideas constantly come to my mind. I have a notebook where I jot down ideas and there are enough to keep the blog going for a long while.

My bucket list – in short

Latin America is where my heart is and I will never be done with that continent. I have recently achieved my dream of visiting Bolivia, Chile and Uruguay. But I am not quite done with that continent, and I doubt I ever will be. I already have my next trips planned in my head, although I am not sure when I am going to take off again! I also want to learn tango and salsa dance, I want to learn how to sing without people crying for me to stop, I want to hike the Fitzroy and cruise the Amazon River. And the list is constantly growing.

10 curious facts about me

I love swimming. To me that is the best sport ever. And no, swimming in the ocean is just for fun. Real training is done in a swimming pool.
I love hiking, biking, and any other activity in the nature.
I love animals and when I am on the road I miss my cats more than anybody else.
I like paper books, not e-readers, but I may eventually surrender to one.
I enjoy drinking beer and watching tv by myself – in fact, I need time by myself quite often.
I do not consider weekends away as proper travelling.
I grew up in a city but I still get bored visiting cities after about 2 days.
I prefer shopping for food than shopping for clothes.
I like writing lists of things I have to do.
I will never try “weird” foods.

What is this blog about?

I will never be done exploring this amazing world and on this blog I wish to encourage others to do the same, whatever their age, status or budget. Watch out though! I am a very straightforward person and I will always give you my very own perspective on the places I see and the experiences I live, without ever sugarcoating my message.

I believe travelling is a wonderful way to learn about new cultures; it means crossing bridges, developing great friendships, sharing experiences, learning to survive and to help others. My wish and my mission is to inspire and help others to live great adventures, avoid a few tourist scams here and there, and make the most of their travels – not only financially!
